Thesis Project - Branding and Packaging design

After experiencing deep frustration with some aspects of how zero or low waste stores work now, decided to do my thesis project on creating and branding a store that can be a more successful version of what’s currently available.

Mindful Pantry’s main goal is to eliminate waste where it is not needed, while not compromising quality or comfort. The mission is to bring a zero waste version of products to people of all diets.

The stores packaging runs off of a reusable glass bottle and jar bring-back system that is designed to reduce the production of packaging as much as possible while still delivering a branded product experience to consumers.

LOGO DESIGN

For the development of the logo, I wanted to keep the design fairly simple, to allow for extremely versatile use. The logo system is comprised of various pictorial emblems and a wordmark. The wordmark is used most throughout the branding and can be seen on all of the packaging, while the emblems are used sparingly throughout branded gadgets and corporate uses, like the stationary package. I used this system to allow the logo to take many forms while still conveying the brand equally throughout.

LOGO VARIATIONS

Throughout the branding of Mindful Pantry* there are illustrations of the products so for an interesting system of logo variations, I created illustrations of easily recognisable fruits and vegetables to be paired with the wordmark. These are used later on for employee personalisation

GLASS CONTAINER SYSTEM

As the main focal point of Mindful Pantry*’s vision is to reduce the amount of single use packaging in the world, we work towards that goal by offering our products within a system of glass containers. These containers will be made to be used in a variety of ways with a selection of easily adjustable caps. This allows us to serve a multitude of products, while only producing a small variety of containers, henceforth reducing our carbon footprint even further. Our system has two main categories, bottles and jars.

The jars range in size from 38ml to roughly 1250ml to fit a range of needs from cosmetics to pantry goods. The bottles come in an amber glass and aluminium format to allow customers the option of a travel safe product. The sizes range from 20ml to 500ml.
